Thank you for your interest in submitting materials to the SOVEREIGN STORIES website. SOVEREIGN STORIES is a site maintained by Pacific Islanders in Communications (PIC), a nonprofit corporation whose mission is to increase programming by and about indigenous Pacific Islanders. Submissions for posting on the SOVEREIGN STORIES website may be submitted for consideration. As a recipient of funds from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Pacific Islanders in Communications seeks accurate, objective and balanced content for inclusion in the SOVEREIGN STORIES website. Any comments regarding the SOVEREIGN STORIES content by be submitted to Pacific Islanders in Communications or to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s comment line.

Submissions are evaluated based on a variety of factors which further PIC’s mission, including: (i) the quality and appropriateness of the subject matter or approach; (ii) the expertise of the individuals(s) or organization submitting material for consideration;
(iii) the need to provide balanced and accurate information on the SOVEREIGN STORIES website; (iv) the reliability of the materials (including sources used); and
(v) whether submissions support the mission of Pacific Islanders in Communications.

Once a submission is received, it will be reviewed internally by Pacific Islanders in Communications in accordance with the editorial policies available on the SOVEREIGN STORIES website.

The following guidelines are intended to help you submit materials. Submissions that do not meet these requirements will not be considered. SOVEREIGN STORIES may not be able to return materials submitted for review. Please keep a copy of all submitted materials and do not send anything that you consider irreplaceable. Submitted materials will not be returned.

Required Materials

A Submission Release signed by the individual or authorized officer of the company offering the Submission. A copy of SOVEREIGN STORIES’s Submission Release is attached.

The name, address, telephone number and e-mail address of any submitter. If a submission is from a company or organization, the legal corporate name, address, telephone number, website and contact person at the company must be included. The submitter should include relevant academic information about him/herself as well as the name of his/her current employer to ascertain that no conflicts of interest, lobbying or other such activities interfere with, impact or limit the use of the submission.

SOVEREIGN STORIES SUBMISSION RELEASE

The following shall constitute a release (the “Release”) by ________________________ (“Submitter”) with regard to the submission of a material entitled _________________________ (the “Submission”) for review and consideration by SOVEREIGN STORIES. Submitter understands and agrees that the execution of this Release is a prerequisite to SOVEREIGN STORIES’s review of the Submission. All references in this Release to SOVEREIGN STORIES shall include any related entities as well as SOVEREIGN STORIES’s directors, officers, agents, employees, consultants, lessees, licensees, successors and assigns.

In consideration of SOVEREIGN STORIES’s review of the Submission, Submitter agrees as follows:

1. Submitter understands that SOVEREIGN STORIES does not agree to consider the Submission in confidence. Submitter acknowledges that SOVEREIGN STORIES must disclose the Submission to its directors, officers and employees and possibly others outside of SOVEREIGN STORIES’s employ (including the Corporation for Public Broadcasting). Submitter understands that SOVEREIGN STORIES’s consideration of the Submission, and any discussions between Submitter and SOVEREIGN STORIES regarding the Submission, do not create a confidential relationship between Submitter and SOVEREIGN STORIES.

2. SOVEREIGN STORIES shall give the Submission such consideration as it merits in SOVEREIGN STORIES’s sole and final judgment. SOVEREIGN STORIES is under no obligation to release to Submitter any details of SOVEREIGN STORIES’s actions with respect to the Submission or any information on SOVEREIGN STORIES’s activities, whether or not related to the Submission.

3. SOVEREIGN STORIES is under no obligation to Submitter whatsoever with respect to the Submission and shall not be obligated to further consider a Submission. Submitter understands that it shall receive no compensation whatsoever if SOVEREIGN STORIES uses the Submission.

4. Any parts of the Submission that are solely owned and controlled by Submitter pursuant to 15 U.S.C. 1051 et seq. and/or protected by copyright for the benefit of Submitter pursuant to 17 U.S.C. 101 et seq. shall be deemed protected materials for the purpose of this Release and SOVEREIGN STORIES claims no ownership in such protected materials by virtue of this Release.

5. Submitter represents and warrants that:

(a) Submitter is the sole originator of the Submission, that the Submission is solely owned by Submitter and that no other person, firm or corporation has any right, title or interest in or to the Submission or any part of the Submission;

(b) Neither the Submission nor SOVEREIGN STORIES’s review or use thereof shall violate any personal or property rights of any third party, including but not limited to, rights of droit moral, privacy, publicity, copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights, nor shall the Submission or SOVEREIGN STORIES’s review or use of the Submission constitute defamation, libel, or slander against any third party;

(c) Submitter has the full right and authorization to submit the Submission to SOVEREIGN STORIES for consideration on all the terms and conditions stated in this Release;

(d) Submitter has fully read and understands and agrees to this Release.

6. Submitter agrees to indemnify, defend and hold harmless SOVEREIGN STORIES and any person or entity related to it from and against any claim, loss, obligation, liability or expense, including reasonable attorneys fees, that may be asserted against or incurred by SOVEREIGN STORIES in connection with the Submission, any use of the Submission or any part of it by SOVEREIGN STORIES, or any breach of any representation, covenant or warranty made by Submitter under this Release.

7. This Release constitutes the entire understanding of Submitter and SOVEREIGN STORIES as of the date of this Release. No other agreement, written or oral, expressed or implied, exists between Submitter and SOVEREIGN STORIES with respect to the Submission. Any modification or waiver or termination of this Release must be in writing and signed by both Submitter and SOVEREIGN STORIES. The invalidity of any provision of this Release shall not affect the remaining provisions. The representations, warranties and indemnities contained in this Release shall survive the termination, execution, completion or expiration of this Release.

8. Submitter has retained a copy of the Submission and agrees that SOVEREIGN STORIES shall not have any obligation to return the submitted copy and that SOVEREIGN STORIES shall be under no obligation for any loss or damage to the submitted copy.
